News| David has now returned safe and sound from his little trip. |
| | I have upgraded, in one fell swoop, my Linux, Apache, Mysql, and PHP installations. Linux goes from Ubuntu 5 to 7, Mysql from 4 to 5, PHP from 4 to 5, and Apache from 2.something to 2.somethingelse. This will make absolutely no difference to the site's users in any way. Carry on! |
| | David Goode is taking a gap year before college and is available to work. He has extensive programming knowledge, in languages including PHP, HTML, Javascript, C++, Java, JSP, ASP, Ajax and SQL. If you're seeing this, this message also serves as a testament to his ability to set up reliable Apache and MySQL servers on both Windows and Linux platforms. | | A brand new version of Galaxy, a space shooter game some friends and I are working on, is now out. It is a ridiculously kickass update, implementing the new political system, asteroids, planet textures, and a host of other improvements. Find out about it here, and stay tuned, as many more updates are still coming! Second semester senior year yields all kinds of new opportunities! |
| | The new version of the site is now up (ish)! For more details, stop by the forum thread about it. |
| | In other news, I decided to get rid of the statistics measuring scripts on the site. Although they may have been useful, they were making the pages load up to 10 times as slowly. So, now they're gone. This should make this site function better until the new version is up and running. |
| | I am currently creating a 3D space shooter game in OpenGL and C++, called (quite unoriginally) 'Galaxy'. I posted the first version of it, which doesn't have much, but it's still pretty cool and completely playable! You can see the forum thread here. I plan to add many more elements, like, say, a plot, in the future, so stay tuned!! Try it out though: it's a tiny download, and doesn't require any installation. |
| | Now, even without the robot, this site is well over 1 million hits. Thanks to everyone for helping reach this goal! On another note, I am currently working on a replacement for this site, which should be ready within a few months. One change should be in speed, as the current execution times of over 1 second for most pages are getting quite ridiculous. On test versions of the new site I'm getting times below .1 seconds for most pages, so hopefully that should lead to a noticeable improvement. I'm also adding many cool new features, centered around integrating most of the modules with a new dropbox system. This will lead to a cleaner system and will also allow things like personal arcades or forums for all users. |
| | K, I found out what the 1,000,000th hit was. It ended up being from the search crawler around 3:00 AM. This is sorta anticlimatic, and in fact, it turns out my crawler is responsible for 321,577 hits, so really this site has't even passed 1,000,000. Oh well. I'll try to update the stat page so it ignores these. |
| | This site is currently at 987,000 hits, so hopefully this threshold will soon be reached (barring any unforeseen terrorist attacks or the like on my humble abode). Thanks to everyone who's visited for helping to make this site so successful, and I hope you'll keep coming here for the next million! |
| | Sorry about the recent downtime. Our internet service went down for about a day, but it should be back up and working fine now. I'm looking into moving the site to a paid server like 1and1.com, so if/when I do the uptime should reach basically 100%. |
| | Sorry bout my slacking in adding games recently. However, I just added about 15 new games today, and I'll try to add them more reliably in the future. Try them out, as it's pretty easy to get high scores for now... |
| | The harddrive serving the site appeared to be performing very poorly, so I moved the site to the other one. It has been working very reliably, and hopefully will continue to do so. I do not yet know what exactly went wrong with my other harddrive, but I will attempt to determine the cause of this problem. For now though, the site should work just fine on the current harddrive. |
| | Want to play arcade games in secret? Worried big brother is watching? Well, today is your lucky day. This site now has an HTTPS, SSL encrypted version, which can be accessed at this url. Also useful if your ISP or browser blocks port 7070. |
| | I'm really sorry about the 3 day downtime recently. This was due to a lightning strike frying my harddrive, and I had to get to a store and buy a new one. Hopefully this won't happen again. The new harddrive is actually a bit faster than the old one, but probably not noticably. Once again, sorry for the inconvenience. |
| | I recently finalized two updates to the site. In the arcade, only your best score will now be recorded. This should make the arcade pages load faster and allow more accurate usage data without the huge amounts of space and time required previously. The new version is accessed under the 'Arcade' link, and the old one no longer should be used, and is not readily available. In the dropboxes, the script now counts how many times your files are downloaded. This is a minor addition, but it might be helpful. If you haven't yet used the dropboxes, you should: You get 100mb file space, absolutely free, which you can use to either share files or have a personal web file space, or both. The dropboxes can be accessed here. I think the next section to recieve an update will be the blogs, as they are underused and are powered by relatively old scripts. I may completely rewrite them, or just overhaul large sections of existing code. With summer almost here (school ends in a week), anything is possible! |
| | An interesting DragonBall-Z themed movie has recently been uploaded to this site. It can be accessed here. |
| | I've just added a new layout. It is not the default, so you must be logged in to see it. Click 'Your Account', and then 'Options', and select the 'Purple n Gray' layout. It's similar to the others, but with new colors and a 3-Dish effect. Have fun. |
| | There's quite a bit of thunder in my area, so if the site goes down, you know why. I sadly do not have redundant servers in multiple nuclear safe bunkers across the country, so my single Dell PC on a surge protector will have to suffice. |
| | Making a lot of progress on the site. The dropboxes and arcades are working pretty reliably now, along with most of the backend. Hope to finish by the end of April, possibly. |
